What I think it is weirdly telling of the times is the final paragraph/quote.
Richards is listing all the negative fallout that will come from his being arrested, with one of the items is ‘my assistant probably will be a homosexual’. Whether whomever he is talking about is/was gay or not, so odd that he is looking down upon that orientation…..from his role as part ringleader of a horrific CP and (essentially) child prostitution ring. Says a lot about attitudes on the subject in the 70’s.
It’s funny. I remember one of the promises Richards made to me. He said that if I ever told anyone what he was doing with me he would tell everybody. I was a homosexual. And it was my idea. And then he would laugh as if it was a joke. I was probably 13 years old at the time. Well it appears he kept his promise. But he was wrong. I am by far no genius. Nor am I a homosexual. Not that sexuality has anything to do with anything as long as it doesn’t involve children or animals. You can be what you choose. Unfortunately that was not the case in the 70s. The people who are responsible for this newspaper clippings. Should be ashamed of themselves for writing this. And so should anybody who has exploited this narrative.
